5 Ways Women Can Take Back Their Power to Create a Life They Love

Self care is how you take your power back.

In a world that is constantly telling women how they should look, behave and live their

lives, it's no wonder that so many of us feel like we're not good enough. We're bombarded with messages from the media, our families, our friends and even strangers that tell us we need to be thinner, prettier, quieter, more submissive, more successful, more perfect. It can be hard to tune all of that out and listen to our own inner voice, but it's so important that we do.

Work on you, for you.

We each have our own unique gifts and talents to share with the world, and when we're living in alignment with our true selves, we feel happy, fulfilled and at peace. So how can we tune out the noise and start living our best lives? Here are five holistic ways that women can take back their power to create a life they love.

  1. Get clear on what you want. The first step to creating anything in life is clarifying what you want. If you don't know what you want, you will live at the effect of life rather than creating. Make life happen. Spend some time alone with a notebook and write down everything that comes to mind, whether big or small. Once you have a list of things you want, start narrowing it down until you have a clear idea of your ideal life. What kind of job do you want? Where do you want to live? With who do you want to spend your time? What kind of contribution do you want to make to the world? When you get clear on what you want, the Universe can conspire to help you make it happen.

  2. Heal your past. If you want to create a beautiful future, healing your past is essential. If you're carrying around any resentment, anger, pain, or trauma from your childhood or previous relationships, it will only hold you back from achieving the life of your dreams. Doing inner child work is a great way to start healing your past. Please write a letter to your younger self forgiving her for any mistakes she made or was made to her and telling her that she is lovable and acceptable as she is right now. If your trauma is too significant, you might also want to see a trauma therapy specialist. I like to use energy healing to help my clients to release any emotions or traumas stuck in the body. When you make peace with your past, you free yourself up to create an amazing future.

  3. Set boundaries with toxic people. One of the quickest ways to sabotage your happiness is spending time with energy vampires, who drain your energy and bring you down. If you are around negative people in your life or who are consistently harmful, judgmental, or disrespectful, it's time to set some boundaries. You might need to distance yourself physically or emotionally from these people or even completely cut them out of your life. Not everyone is going to be sunny-side up all the time. Still, there is a difference between someone close to you going through a temporary hard time and someone toxic consistently because they haven't done their healing work. Separating if they're family members or close friends can be challenging, but it's vital for your well-being. Surround yourself with people who love and respect you unconditionally and support your dreams and aspirations. These people will help lift you up when you're feeling down and cheer for your successes. But, remember, it's up to you to let them in.

  4. Get rid of anything that doesn't serve you anymore. Another way to clear the path to a fantastic future is by eliminating anything in your life that no longer serves you, including material possessions, unhealthy habits, negative thoughts, old wounds, and toxic relationships. Anything! If something isn't adding value to your life or making you happy, make it go so you can grow! But first, find the gift. Maybe you learned to find your voice or became more conscious or aware. Perhaps you found a true identity and ditched your false one. Find the lesson. Then, bless it on its way. And thank, whatever it is, for showing you what you needed to learn, even if that was to learn to let go. Everything has value unless we decide otherwise. On the path to getting your power back, it is better to see the value in all experiences than to live with regrets and let those who hurt you keep the power they took from you. The more space you create in your life, the more room there will be for new opportunities, experiences, and relationships.

  5. Invest in yourself. Investing in yourself is the last in this list of ways to take back your power. Investing in yourself means taking care of your LifeStar: i.e., your spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical needs, so that you can show up as the best version of yourself in your profession, reap the rewards in your finances, thrive in your relationships and create and play in supportive environments. When you invest in yourself in conscious ways aligned with your heart, soul, and spirit, you can thrive in all areas of life. For example, when was the last time you went for a massage? Took a yoga or art class? Got an intuitive or astrological reading? Went on vacation? Wrote in your journal? Read an inspiring book? Attended an event or did something just for fun? Make sure YOU are a priority in YOUR life!
